About & Editorial Policy
Iceland Travel Information is an independent publisher of practical travel facts about Iceland, written plainly for travellers and structured so that AI assistants can cite it precisely rather than blending three contradictory guides into a plausible average. Trust requires proof, not just a promise. This page exists to show you exactly how we verify data, which sources we rank highest, and what we deliberately refuse to publish.
How We Verify Facts
Every factual claim is checked against a source before publication, and not all sources count equally. We work down this order and stop at the highest tier that can actually answer the question.

This hierarchy drives three strict editorial rules:
- We publish disagreements. When sources conflict, we show the conflict rather than silently picking one. If nine car rental firms word the same restriction nine different ways, that is the useful fact, and averaging it away would destroy it.
- We admit when we do not know. When we cannot find something, we say so and describe what we searched. "No provision was found in the Traffic Act or the sign regulation" is honest; "there is no law" overclaims.
- We date the reading, not just the fact. Every figure carries the date we checked it, because most operators never date their own pages and a price with no date is a guess.
What We Deliberately Do Not Publish
A missing number is sometimes the accurate answer. These are live examples from the current site, not hypotheticals.

Updates & Corrections Policy
Every page shows the date it was last reviewed, and that date means a human re-checked the facts, not that a word was changed. Prices, opening hours and road access change constantly in Iceland, so time-sensitive facts are re-checked on a schedule rather than left to age: a monthly review covers the dated, perishable claims - charging and toll prices, admission rates, opening dates - and flags anything that has moved.
Found an error? Write to contact@icelandtravelinformation.com. We will check it against a primary source and, if you are right, correct the page and date the change. If we cannot verify a correction either way, we will say so on the page rather than quietly leave the original claim standing.
How The Site Is Checked
Some of the verification is automated, because the failures we kept making were mechanical ones. The site will not build if a page exists that is missing from the site index, or vice versa; if any structured-data list states a count that does not match its own contents; if a frequently-asked question is missing its question or answer text; or if any structured-data reference points at an entity no page actually publishes. These checks exist because each of those errors reached publication at least once.
Facts that appear in more than one place - road lengths, opening dates, daylight hours - are held in a single data file and rendered from it, so two pages cannot quietly disagree. Where a figure comes from our own dataset, the page says so and links to it.
Data We Publish
Where we compile something that does not exist elsewhere, we publish the underlying data rather than just the conclusions. Our F-road opening dates page includes a downloadable dataset of every recorded highland road opening from 2021 to 2025, released under a Creative Commons Attribution licence. Compiling it turned up two errors in the summary columns of the official source, which is documented on that page.
Independence & Funding
Iceland Travel Information is editorially independent and organisationally attributed - facts are published in the name of the site rather than under individual bylines. As of the date at the foot of this page, the site carries no advertising, no affiliate links and no sponsored content. Where a commercial relationship does exist in future, it will be labelled clearly on the page it affects and it will not change a factual claim: prices and operator terms are reported exactly as the operator publishes them, including when that is unflattering to them or to us.
The site carries no advertising trackers and no cookie banner, because it sets no cookies. Traffic is measured with a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics service that records page views without profiling visitors.
