Privacy Policy
Effective date: 9 August 2026. Any later change will be dated here.
The short version: this site sets no cookies, shows no advertising, has no user accounts, no login and no newsletter, and does not profile its visitors. Traffic is measured with a cookieless analytics service that produces aggregate statistics only. The only personal data we ever hold about you is what you choose to send us by email.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller for this website is Iceland Travel Information (https://icelandtravelinformation.com). For anything concerning your personal data - a question, a request, or an objection - write to contact@icelandtravelinformation.com.
What happens when you visit the site
Hosting
The site is hosted by Vercel Inc. Like any web server, Vercel's infrastructure processes your IP address in order to deliver pages to you, and keeps short-lived server logs for security and operations. We do not use these logs to identify visitors. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in serving and securing the site (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Analytics
We measure traffic with Vercel Web Analytics, chosen because it works without cookies and without storing anything on your device. Instead of a cookie, a visit is identified by an anonymised hash of the incoming request, which Vercel discards within 24 hours; what we see is aggregate page-view statistics that cannot identify or re-identify an individual visitor. Per Vercel's privacy documentation (read 9 August 2026), each page view records:
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
| Event timestamp | 2026-08-09 09:06 |
| Page URL | /driving-in-iceland/f-roads-and-highlands/ |
| Referrer | https://www.google.com/ |
| Geolocation (country, region, city) | Germany, Bavaria, Munich |
| Device operating system and version | iOS 19 |
| Browser and version | Safari 19 |
| Device type | Mobile, desktop or tablet |
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing which pages are read (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Because the service sets no cookies and no comparable device identifiers, no consent banner is required - which is why the site does not have one.
If you email us
If you write to us - to report an error, or for any other reason - we process your email address and the contents of your message in order to reply, and we keep the exchange as ordinary correspondence. We do not add you to any list, and we do not share your address with anyone. If you want a past exchange deleted, ask and we will delete it.
What we do not do
No cookies and no local storage. No third-party trackers, advertising networks or social-media embeds. No selling or sharing of data for marketing. No profiling and no cross-site tracking. No accounts and no newsletter. If any of this changes, this policy will be updated first and the change dated - the same rule every factual page on this site follows.
Where the data is processed
Vercel is a US company with global infrastructure, so the technical data described above may be processed outside the European Economic Area. Transfers from the EEA are covered by Vercel's data processing agreement, which incorporates the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (read 9 August 2026).
Your rights
Under the GDPR, implemented in Iceland by Act no. 90/2018 on Data Protection and the Processing of Personal Data, you have the right to access, rectify and erase personal data we hold about you, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. Given how little we collect, in practice this almost always concerns email correspondence - but the rights apply regardless, and exercising them costs one email to the address above. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with Persónuvernd, the Icelandic Data Protection Authority.
Changes to this policy
If what the site collects ever changes - for example, if a newsletter is added - this policy will be updated before the change goes live, and the effective date at the top will move. The policy describes what the site actually does, not what a template assumes; if you spot a discrepancy between this page and the site's behaviour, report it like any other error.
